There are loads of gold strategies in Cataclysm, most of them are quite boring to be honest. I've personally found a new and interesting way of making gold in Cataclysm. It all comes from abusing the "Chinese Gold Farmers", as they are commonly called. These people work in shifts for up to 12 hours per day, and they have a specific number of gold earned that they have to reach before the next person steps in to keep farming. And if you know how to abuse this, then the profits can be enormous. Because they only play for around 12 hours, Auctions isn't that viable for most of them because they need gold fast, they need it instantly.
They do some mob farming which gives them gold directly, but they can also farm items like herbs, ores, leather, recipes, enchanting materials, and so on. When there is about 30 minutes left of their shift they will try to sell the items that are left through the Trade Channel, and the longer they go without selling their items, the more desperate they become.
This Means that You will get the items a lot cheaper than the Auction house price, Sometimes you will get your own personal farmer, try to get him to keep selling items to you and you only, either by CoD or trade them whenever they get online. The gold farmers have a deadline, for when they have to change shifts and, and they also have to get at least X amount of gold, when this "deadline" come close, at 23.00+ server time, they will load everything off on the first person whispering them, it can be "WTS Saronite ore" If you buy these, they will trade you again, put up some items(herbs, eternals etc) and say a number in whisper or just wait, this is when you crush them.
They might want 11gold for a saronite stack, pay them 9. If they want 10gold for each eternal life, pay them 8. 15g Icethorn? More like 12.5g. They are not in a position to negotiate and will take close to any offer. Remember to bring a lot of gold, and a lot of space.
ALWAYS ask people how much they want for an item if they advertise in trade, 90% of the time it will be below AH price and if it´s an high level item or if you buy in bulk(many items, 100 stacks of herbs etc) you can push the price down by at least 10-15%.
